LADIES’ HOCKEY
MOMONA WINS A GRADE. The weekly meeting of the executive was held on Monday, Mns G. Nelson presiding. The secretary reported that matters were well in hand for the matV on Saturday next, South Canterbury v. Utago, arrangements having been made with the Men's Association to play both games on the Caledonian, the ladies’ at 2 o’clock, and the men’s at 5.15. It was decided not to issue tickets for this match, as tickets for Southland match on September 9 were already out, and the ones, for Canterbury on September To still to be issued. A letter was received from Cahterbury confirming September 13 for the OtagoCanterbury match in Dunedin. The committee set up to arrange matters in connection with this match reported that arrangements had been made with the Men’s Executive to play it as a curtain raiser to the Australian match, the ground) yet to be decided on. In view of heavy expenses which the Men’s Association would incur, it decided to/allow the whole of the proceeds to go towards making the Australian visit a financial success, and to ask all lady players to co-operate in this movement. ■"
It was decided to close the A grade competition. Mcmona winning the cup with a lead of three points. The following-is the position of teams:
la the B grade Ravonsbourno No. 1 appear on top with 22 points; Training College No. 1 (20 points) still have one match to play. It was decided to play Training College 1 v. Ravensbourne 2 on tho Ova! at 2 p.m. on Saturday. On Saturday, September 2, a seven-a-gide tournament for B grade will_ be played on the Oval if sufficient entries are received. A letter was received from South Otago asking the Otago team to play in Balclutha on tho way to Invercargill.— Agreed to, provided the match v. Southland in Invercargill can be arranged, so far no date having been settled with Southland. It was decided to invite South Otago to play in Dunedin on September 2, the match to be played on the Oval. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Searell for the interest be had taken in ladies’ hockey and the help he had given the executive. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Searell and convey the executive’s thanks and good wishes.
