GERMANY NOT WANTED
OFFER TO SUPPLY MOIUXITION. DOES IT CONTRAVENE TREATY? [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, July 28. If, was made clear in a letter from the Minister and a letter received by the Chamber of Commerce, that tho German trading firm which recently made an offer to an Auckland firm of importers to supply small arms and ammunition will have little opportunity to do business in New Zealand.
Sir Heaton Rhodes stated tbit ho had referred the Gorman firm’s letter to the Minister of Customs, who had replied that as far ns the dominion was concerned there was no fear of Germany being able to obtain admission for such goods, as the importation from Germany of all goods was prohibited. After consultation with the AttorneyGeneral, it had been suggested to the Minister of Defence that he should bring the question whether the German offer was in contiuvention of the Peace Treaty under the notice of the Foreign Office, and the necessarv steps to do that were being taken through" the High Commissioner, who is also New Zealand's representative on the League of Nations.
