IRISH SOCIETY

Tlio monthly meeting of the Dunedin Irish Society, at which'there_ was almost a record attendance, was held in the Overseas Chib room last evening, and proved one of the most enjoyable meetings hold bv the society. 'The programme was comprised of songs, dances, recitations, etc., all contributed by Juveniles, each displaying marked talent and reflecting groat credit on the teachers. Irish selections were given by the pupils of St. Philomona’s College; songs bv Ngaira Goughian, Doreen Sheeny, Pearl Carotin, Baby Noes, Frank Foster, Reginald Richards, and W. Gallagher; duet by Kathleen and Doreen Shcehy; action "song by the Christian Brothers’ bovs; solo by Master Dnnne; recitations by Cecily Gallagher, Gladys Gallagher, Kteil Bradley, and Marcus- CougMan; pianoforte solo by Kathleen Whelan; violin solo by Master Simmonds; pipe selection by Master Budge; Irish reel by Kathleen Necs; dog dance by Lora Budge ; Irish reel by Marjorie Dutty, May Hungerford, Margaret Gall, Annie Mooro, and Loma Budge. Mrs Murdoch was an efficient accompanist. During the interval a vote of sympathy was passed to the Rev. Brother Bowler on the loss of his father, and to the relatives of the late Mjs Burke, who was one of the oldest members of the society.

llis Lordship the Bight Rev. I)r Whyte congratulated the children on their display, and, on behalf of Mrs Foster, ho presented the society with a picture which’ was brought from Ireland by her mother (tho late airs Wilkins) in 1866. Tho President, on behalf of the society, thanked Mrs Foster for her gift. Ho also thanked the children for their bright and entertaining performance, and said he felt assured of the future of the society while it had such promising members to call on.
