GREEN ISLAND, COUNCIL
The mayor (Mr J. L. Miller) presided at the monthly meeting of tho Green Island Council last evening. The Reserves Committee reported having received a deputation from tho Green Island Rugby Football Club regarding Aliller Park. The commit too recommended that barbed wire, bo removed and plain wire placed on the fence adjoining the private road, and tho necessary posts .secured : that the Football Club bo asked lo supply labor to grub goree; that tho town clerk make inquiries as to tho cost of installing lights; that the Reserves Committee inspect tho shed and report; that application be undo to tho Government for a grant for the Domain.—The report was adopted. The council agreed to carry out improvements at Alillc-rPark on condition that the Football Chib assisted with labor and a contribution towards the cost of the work. It was also decided to approach schools, lodges, clnuchcs. and other bodies in connection with tho celebration of Arbor Day on Alay 27. The Works Committee recommended that Cr Reeve and tho town clerk interview tho District Engineer regarding his complaint of sewage on the railway track at Abbotsford ; that the, approaches to Concord School (which were tho .subject of a complaint from tho committee) be repaired as soon as material was available; that fifty yards of gravel and fifty yards of screenings bo procured for paths, tho oommitteo to inspect and report when material is ready; that the request of Air J, B. Orr and five other residents for the replacement of an open ditch by pipes bo granted, applicants to supply tho pipes and the council to do the work; that Air Kalcr’s request to erect a temporary shod on Alain South road be granted, subject to immediate removal on notice from tho council; that the Works Committee inspect North Taicri road with power to act; that the questions of lighting raised by Abbotsford deputation bo referred to Lighting Committee, and other matters be inspected by Works Commi-too; that pipes be put in to water table at corner of Frederick street; that .Messrs Al'Donald and Phillips’s tender for carting bo accepted.—Adopted. _ In the absence of Cr Eason, Cr Christie moved his amendment to fix the lighting rate at 4|d invtho £.—Tho amew!was lost, and the motion proposed by Cr Tomkins fixing the rate, at 4d was carried. The following other rates were adopted : General, Is Sd; water, 5 per cent, and 2i per cent. ; hospital, 71d ; Alillor Park, Id"
