ELLA SHIELDS
Miss Ella Shields, who comes to New Zealand with a world-wide reputation as a characterise!' of male impersonations, will commence her Dunedin season at His Majesty’s Theatre next The Australian Pkoes has been loud in its praise of Miss Shields’s talent, eulogising her artistic rendering of that old-time favorite ‘Burlington Bertie of Bow,’ in which sho creates an entirely different rendering from what has been heard in the past. It is described as a study of genteel vagabondage from its best angle. She is said, to possess a sweet voice, undoubted personality, and, further, dances with the grace and lightness of a fay. Another song that brought her into prominence is ‘You're a Doggone Curious Girl,’ a psychological number admirably set and perfectly delivered. _ Mr Musgrovo, who is presenting Miss Shields, has carefully ©elected a variety of imported vaudeville artists to support her. Mi eg Shields is the personification of “gentlemanly” grace and reserve, and in all she says and docs is backed by a cool, quiet reserve and debamiair style that is over so far irony the usual run of male impersonators. Miss Shields is tall and handsome, is perfectly wigged, wears the conventional evening clothes, and is blessed with a low-pitchcd voice almost mannish in texture. . She made her chief success in ‘ Burlington Bertio of Bow,’ a song in which sho is famous throughout tho Empire. The box plan is now open at The Bristol Piano Company’s.
