ST. VINCENT’S ORPHANAGE
An American tea and gift afternoon was hold at the Overseas Club Room yesterday in aid of the St. Vincent’s Orphanage building fund. The attendance was large, and an excellent musical programme was rendered, tho contributors being Mrs Burrows, Miss MThorson, _ Miss Dennett, and Miss Grant (pupils of Miss Ray Jackson), Mrs W. Evans, Miss Inder, and Miss London (songs), Mies Alum Finnerty (elocution) and boys from the Christian Brothers’ School (an operetta ‘ On Our Farm ’). The accompanists were Miss Koa Oliver and Miss A. M’Grnth. The programme was arranged by Mrs Baker. llio arrangements for the business part of the afternoon were perfect, Mrs O’Neill, who was the organiser of the function, having tho assistance of a band of willing workers. A sweets and cake stall was in charge of tho Misses Lawrence and Metcalfe, a flower stall in charge of Mrs Kelleher and Miss Hart, and the gifts stall in charge of Mosdames Boppelwell and Hussey and Miss O’Neill. Tho afternoon tea was attended to by Mrs Plaister and the Misses Peter, Brennan, Bryant, Todd, O’Neill, Walsh, Brown, and Green. A nail-driving and hat-trimming contest added interest to the general proceedings. Tho former was won by Mrs Richards, and the latter by Mrs Plaister.
