RAILWAY MANAGEMENT

HASTINGS, March 22. The Acting Minister of Railways and General Manager heard representations by tho Borough Council and tho Chamber of Commerce on various matters regarding railway management. Tho Minister said that tho freight tariff would soon bo operating wherein many anomalies would bo wiped out, and tho railways would bo in a better position to cope with the motor lorry traffic on the roads. Speaking of railway leasehold sections in tho centre of Hastings, tho Minister said he was altogether in favor of tenants being given tho security of tenure, and would recommend tho Government to amend tho conditions of lease to enable the leaseholders to erect substantial buildings. The (Minister and Mr MVilly left for Dannevirke by the midday train, and will proceed to Wellington to-mor-row.
