SUGAR SUPPLIES
EAKANOA’S SHIPMENT LANDED. The steamer Rakanoa arrived at Dunedm early _ yesterday afternoon from Auckland via Jjyttelton ■vvit-li a cargo ■which included 215 tons of xaw and 515 tons of refined sugar. As soon as the vessel was berthed no time was lost in making a start to discharge the cargo, and throughout the afternoon the men engaged were busy handling the su°ar, a large proportion of which was landed by last night, and the remainder to-day _ A further shipment of raw and refined «*gar is being brought down from Auckland by the Wanaka. "752 *675 1 T“ e total supplies by both vessels are 1,202 tons of raw and 1,120 tons of refined sugar, or a grand total of 2.522 tons. ibis represents, probablv, about six weeks supply. INCREASED ISSUE BY GROCERS. On making inquiries a ‘Star’ reporter was informed on reliable authority that tne public can now look forward to an increase in the issue of supplies from today onwards. _ Most of the grocers had been able to issue only 11b to customers at one time, but this has now been increased to 31b. Theie is every prospect that this increased issue of supplies will be continued for some time. . P 1 ® Rakanoa’s shipment has been distributed in equal proportions to all grocers It is expected that the shipment comm * forward by the Wanaka will be sufficient for household purposes for several weeks to come.
