It is announced that the authorities have promised a further inquiry into tlio Father Jerger case pending his deportation. It is now ascertained that Father Jerger's internment was the outcome of allegedly disloyal utterances. Strong protests against theso utterances, including some from members of Father Jerger's own church, led the * authorities to take action. The v;holo incident is causing an unusually widespread revival of bitter sectarianism, combined with fervid loyalism. The 6e.imen have decided that the union shall withdraw from all future naval and activities. This decision is the result of the Government's refusal to pay tho men a v.-ar gratuity. MELBOURNE, May 31. The Ono Big Union Conference, comprised mainly of delegates from the Railwaymen, Waterside Workers, and Coal Miners, the other unions being poorly represented, decided to launch "departments of transportation and mining, the former embracing railwaymen and waterside workers, and tho" latter coal and shale workers. The conference represented 64,000 workers. SYDNEY, June 1. (Received Juno 1, at 9.25 a.m.) The military authorities liavo been instructed from Melbourne to remove the names of Father Jerger and Hjrschfield from the deportation list, pending a reconsideration of the matter.
