OUR BEACH.
PROTECTIVE WOEKS ANSWERING WELL. , NOW BEING CONSOLIDATED. From _ tho person.s who went to Ft. Claiy this morning to have a look at tho :;ca,eh there might have been heard a cheer—if (ho weather had been at all vivifying. The outlook was distinctly satisfactory, in that the ruining process has c.-ascd or been stayed, and the beach has made up a. bit. In part- this is no doubt due to the tides and wind moderating, but observers believe also that the protective works that are being carried out by Mr M'Curdie (city engineer) are proving effective, and would even now resist assault were the ocean to become angry again. The 26 men and tho 36 horaos and carts that were at work on Sunday and Monday were at it again to-day, the immediate task being to'go over the ground and consolidate tho resistance that was somewhat hurriedly erected at first. Block stakes havo been drivers into the sand along tho lino of attack, so aj to measure the advance or retirement as the case may be, and it was a pleasure to note by these that there has been no further damage; in fact the beach has ma-do up a bit, and this part now won is distinguished -by a patch of new white sand.
