MAGISTRATE'S COURT. (Beforo H. Y. Widdowson, Esq., S.M.) Judgment by default was given _ for plaintiffs in the following cases: —Riaeh and M'Lennan Co-operative Association v. John Smith (of Waitati), goods, £lO 15s, and costs (£1 10s 6d) ; Robert Brunton v. Robert Smith, interest on mortgage, £4. and costs (lis): Edwin Lough (as assignee of J. C. M'lntosh) v. George Hunter on account stated, £2 13s 2d, and costs (10s): Elizabeth C. Dreaver v. Albert E. J*Teeman (of Kapuni), costs in action for goods, 16s ; Wm. Knox v. Hugh t'urrie, on" account stated, 7s, and costs (ss). James Samson v. Lewis Skinner (of Woodville).—-Claim, £25, commission alleged to be due on sale of hoti.se and section.—Plaintiff did not appear, the action was struck out, with costs against plaintiff (£2 13s 6d) and solicitor's fee (£2 2s). — Defendant applied tor costs of his journey, but this was refused, the Magistrate holding that his evidence should have been taken on commission. CITY POLICE COURT. (Before ft. Y. Widdowson, Esq., S.M.) Drunkenness.—John Somerville Jones was charged with drunkenness.—-Senior-sergeant Murray asked for a remand for medical treatment.—Mr A. S. Adams, representing the relatives of defendant, said that they would bo glad of any iiiensiues which would effect permanent reformation in regard to drink. The man was. lie understood, of good character when sober, but when drinking he tended to become violent.—Mr Neill, on behalf of defendant, said lie opposed any measures, being ableto look after himself.—The Magistrate remanded defendant for seven days' medical treatment.

" Barraden "' tfteinandod Again.—Raymond Saunders, known to the amusement public as '' Professor Barraden," appeared again on remand on the charge of false pretences.—Senior-sergeant .Murray said the accused had been remanded to appear at Christchurch to-morrow, but when arrangements were sought for his escort the police were notified that there was not sufficient room on the train for his accommodation. T'ho police therefore sought a further remand to appear at Christchurch on Friday.—Mr Hay (on accused's behalf) said the only objection was that if he went to Christchurch on Thursday, and wad to be brought before the Court on Friday, the Christ-church solicitor representing him would not have time t,j prepare his defence. That, however, could be arranged by the Court there.— Remanded accordingly, bail being fixed as before.
