Mr Norman E. Crimp was on the 15th inst. admitted at Auckland bv Mi- Justice Hosking as a solicitor of the Supreme Court. Mr Crimp completed his examination in Dunedin before proceeding on active service. In their latest book circular Macmillan and Co. announce a new book on mensuration, constructive plane geometry, and numerical trigonometry by Mr P. Goyen, formerly chief inspector of schools in Otago Mr J. M'D. Stevenson, of the firm of Stevenson and Cook, has definitely decided to contest the mayoralty of Port Chalmers. It is considered probable that Major F. Hume, an artillery officer who ser--c-d at Gallipoli and in France, will succeed Major Moller, who fetimated a month or more ago that he wished to be relieved of his position as group commander as soon as a returned man is available. Captain G. C. S. Dyer, of tho Now Zealand Staff Corps, is appointed assistant Adjutant-General for tho Otago District, in succession to/ Major Shand. Captain Dyer served with Lieutenant-colonel Colquhoun in one of the Otago battalions in Prance. Mrs Sarah Beck, the first police matron appointed in New Zealand, dfod yesterday. For 23 years she was at the central police station. She retired on superannuation in June last. She will be buried at Hokitika.—Wellington telegram.
