EARLY SETTLERS

The committee of the Otago Early Settlers' Association held their monthly meeting yesterday, Mr J. Duthie presiding. The usual invitation was received from the session of First Church for early settlers to attend anniversary services in First Church on Sunday, March 23. The following gifts were received for the museum :—'From John M'Robert, Dunedin, copy of 'Fifty Years Syne'; J. A. Anderson, Mornington, framed portrait of his late father and mother (Mr and Mrs John Anderson, Waiwera South; Aunt Sarah, 1844, from Nelson), settled Anderson Bay, 1845; M. G. Thomson, Dunedin, photograph of number of Maori curios found on his farm at Murdering Beach; Miss Stewart, Castle street, very old snuffbox, which belonged to her grand-uncle, William Stewart, a soldier in the army of King George in. about 1780; Mrs 0. W. Adams, Wellington, portrait of herself (Maori, 1852); Miss Reld, York place, framed portrait of her late father, James Reid (Wonga Wonga, 1861); D. A f Do Maus, Port Chalmers, photographs Port Chalmers old identities' picnic, February 22; R.. E. Bell, Ngaruawahia, framed portrait of his father and mother, Mr and Mrs P. Bell (Jura, 1858); Miss Harwood, Portbbello, framed family group of the Harwood family (father arrived Otago Heads, 1837; mother bv Philip Laing, 1848); J. 11. Atkinson, Bradahaw street, framed portrait of his father, Major J. J. Atkinson, and his mother (Ladybird, 1866). The following deaths were recorded :—J. H.
