FIRES
[Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, July 11. Two cottages in Vera street, Karori, ■were destroyed by fire lids morning. One was ouned by Mr Harold. W. Brown, and occupied by Air Richard Simpson. Tho other one was owmd by Mrs Oyer, of Hamilton, and occupied by Mr Hay ward. A third ' house wa"3 _ saved through the efforts of a bucket brigade. Both houses destroyed are believed to be insured.
The Port Chalmers Firs Brigade were called out Jiortly after 4 o'clock this mcruing to deal with an outbreak in a sii all two-story building in the dockyard. The buildinsr' belongs'to Messrs Miller Bios., docking eorttiactors, and is used for storing gear. The fire stinted 011 th." second Hour, where 10pes weic kept, but it was put cut before t much damage wai dene. The. place was* not insured.
