LOSS OF THE INVERNESS
«e» GREAT ARRIVE AT AUCKLAND. [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND. July 11. The CTew of the British sailing ship Inverness, which was burned at sea and abandoned on April 24, have arrived hero by an Island steamer. No lives were lost. 'The fire was caused by spontaneous combustion in tho coal, winch was loaued at a South African port. One boat's crew were adrift for eight days. The survivors reached Papeete, and wore wired for by the British "Consul. , , .. m ~ Tho crew of the Inverness had difficulty in gettinc out the boats, as the masts were expected to fall at any moment. Two boats wore launched, and both reached Rapa Island, ono in ten days and the other in nine days. They ivere hospitably treated by the natives.
