ANDERSON BAY AMALGAMATION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —At tho public meeting held on Tuesday last Mr T. Somervillo stated that the Bay Town Board had been advised by their own solicitor and by Mr T F. filartin, of Wellington, tho solicitor for the Municipal Association, that even if the amalgamation proposal is carried the whole proceedings will be invalid, because the district is not continuous with the City. This seems to be a point which should be definitely settled before the poll is taken, and I suggest that if those who support amalgamation have been differently advised they should let the ratepayers of the district into their confidence. An absurd position will be created if tho proposal is carried and cannot be brought into operation. Another point: Will not tho City have something to say on the matter? As there seems to be grave doubt as to the position, should the City solicitors not bo consulted before any final steps are taken? They are bound to be consulted by the Ortv before the amalgamation is finally given effect to.—l am, etc., Musselburgh Rise. September 3.
