ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
An inquest was held at Auckland in regard to the death by burning at Birkenhead of James Given and his wife. The evidence of the police, was that the couple were in the habit of indulging in heavy drinking bouts. A verdict was returned by the coroner to the effect that the deceased had met their death by burning through their house being burnt. He added that there was no evidence to show how the fire had originated. An Auckland message states that at the inquest on Herbert Burt the evidence indicated that ho was walking on the Orakei sewer, which is used as a short cut by pedestrians; and fell into the harbor and was drowned.
