The case for the Crown in the alleged maternity bonus frauds is that in 17 specified instances two nurses either mado claims where there was no birth or claimed where the mothers did not intend to claim the bonus. Lrisome cases they registered supposed births over and over again. Dr Erson admitted that he had signed bonus forms in blank at the request of the nurses, but denied doing so on a wholesale scale. Of 50 birth certificates which he had forwarded to the registrar he had attended only .23 of the births concerned.
