CITY COUNCIL REPORTS.

The Works Committee recommend that the offer of Mr W. M. Henderson, Leith Valley, to sell to the council sufficient portion (about 15.3 poles) of his sections (Nos. 16, 17, and 18) at the comer of Bay View road and Surrey street, to permit of the said streets being widened to 33ft from tho centres thereof, tho council in addition to form the roadways and footways to the increased width whenever called upon to do so by Mi- Henderson, bo accepted.

The General Committee report that a cheque for the sum of £5 5e has been received from the Dunedin and Roslyu Tramway Company, Limited, as a donation' towards the cost of providing seating accommodation or other improvements at the Roslyn Swimming Baths; A letter of thanks has been sent to the company for the donation.

The Reserves Committee report having granted an application from the Dunedin Expansion League for the exclusive use of the Botanic Gardens one evening during the me nth of January, for the purpose of holdnig therein an open-air theatrical performance, tho charge for admission to which is not co exceed Is, in terms of the Public Domains Act. The proceeds of the entertainment are to go to the funds of the Expansion League Tho matter of the application made to the Railway Department for consideration of beautifying the northern railway approaches to iho City by the planting o'f trees on either side of the railway lines at Pelichet Bay has bean declined, the department stating that it is not desirable that trees should be planted in close proximity to tho telegraph wires. The proposal has now been referred to the Harbor Board, with a suggestion that the board make provision for tree-planting on the-reclaimed land outside of the railway reserve.

The Tramways Committee report that authority lias been granted to inaugurate a 10 minutes’ service between the' Post Office and St. Hilda, in lieu of the 15 minutes’ service as at present, the seme service to be increased to five minutes between the hours of 5 o’clock and 6.15 p.m., 7.11 and 8 o'clock p.m., and on Saturday evenings. Simultaneously with the carrying of the above alterations into effect, the terminus of the service will be altered to Bowen street. An additional service on tbe Anderson Bay route as far as Beach street will be provided by special cars as often as the traffic may warrant, and the tramway manager has accordingly been instructed to proceed with the construction of the necessary loop at Beach street, at an estimated cost of £B7.
