Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, August 23. A sensational stabbing affray occurred at Newcastle to-day. Two seamen from a German ship had been sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment for desertion, and one of them, named Cosick, when being placed in the police van, got free, rushed at Captain Preiss, the master of the ship, and stabbed him twice in the back. The captain was taken to the hospital, but his injuries are not serious, a thick coat having saved him. Cosick was arrested.
