The 'Southland Time:?' reports that an. accident which ended fatally occurred at Winton .it eleven o'clock on Sunday morainir- Mr J. M. Kennedy, the- well-known tobacconist, of Wbiton. was riding a fractious young horse, which fcr a thiie refused to 'jo, aiifl afterwards started at handgallo]i alo;i'i the main street. At the intersection of two roads the horse made at: attempt to take one road in opposition to the rider's wish to take the other. In hU headstrong strugnicfi the horse crossed his lepN loj-t control of liifi feet., and cam* down, vrit-li the result that Mr Kennedy was throwi heavily on to his head on the road. He wa.= at nr;ce removed by the onlookers to Nurse Brown* private hospital, and Dr (Jow was called in, but Mr Kennedy never refined consciousness, and died shortly after admission to Ihe hospital. He was Miffering from a fracture of the skull and from severe intcnral ininries. He leaver, a widow and a largo family of children. The late Mr Kennedy was well known in Winton, and tool: a keen interest in public affaire, having been for eomo years a member of the lc:al Borough Council and of the School Committee.
