THE NEW COMMANDANT
ARRIVAL IN THE DOMINION. REPLIES TO GERMAN CRITICS. [Pkji United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, December 7. General Godley, the newly-appointed Commandant of the Now Zealand Forces, arrived from Sydney to-day, and was met by Colonel Robin and other prominent defence officers. The Permanent Artillery* formed a guard of honor. Colonel Godley is accompanied by Lieutenant-colonel Head, director of military training and education, Lieutenant-colonel Burnett Stuart, director of military operations and intelligence, and Captain D. C. Spencer Smith, a staff officer to the Commandant. The new Commandant, interviewed, said he considered that the now Australian college is admirable .situated. He was pleased with the military training going on ot Albury. Referring to criticisms by Colonel Gadke, German critic, on the British ?nilitary mancouvres, Colonel Godley said it was difficult for a man like Colonel Gadke to form a proper judgment of the officers in question, because he would not know tile conditions under which the manoruvres were: drawn up. They were drawn up by a war officer primarily for testing mobilisation, and without knowing these conditions the critic's judgment was not of the same value as it would otherwise, have been.
