WOODVILLE RACES. FmsT Day.—Wednesday. Glorious weather. Attendance large, including the Hon. J. Carroll and several members of both Houses of Parliament. Results: Maiden Plate.—Midnight San L Allurome.nt 2, Ahuupai 3. Time, lmin 16|sec. Hack Hurdles.—Millennial 1, Te Whitu 2, .The Spaniard 3. Grand Stand Hack.—Succession 1, Leabora 2, Merry Frank 3. Won all the way. SWIMMING. The postponed 50yds race for members of the Otago Amateur Swimming Association was swum off last night in the High School baths. There wcro nine entries, and each of the two heats and the final provided keen and interesting rates. The final heat resulted:—T. Y. Turner (ssec) 1, E. 11. Jmnes (osec) 2. Also qualified : A. D. Shearer (2sec) and J. C. K. Sibbakl (Bsec). Shearer had the misfortune to slip when about to take off. A close race resulted between Turner and James, the former winning by a very small margin.
