Ihc loronto ‘ Globe ’ urges the appointmeid of the Duke of Connaught, brother of King Ldward, in succession to Dari Urey as Uovernor-Uoneral of Canada. Prinec Leopold of Battcnberg, brother of the Queen of Spain (who is now attending him), passed a restless night, but is able to lake more nourishment. Mr and Mrs Robert M'Kinlay, of Inch Clutha, celebrated their golden wedding yesterday. They were married at Helensburgh, Dumbartonshire, on November 25, 1859, and in October following left Scotland by the Lady Egidia for Port Chalmcis direct, the voyage occupying sixteen weeks. Mr .M'Kinlay at once went to linldutha under engagement to Messrs Hunter and Hunter, contractors, and assisted in building tiro first house erected in Balclutha. Later on ho and his farailv settled at Port Molyneux for ten years, !mt' in 1872 they removed to Inch Clutha, living in Clifton Villa ever since. Sixty guests were present yesterday, the company including nine children and the grown-up grandchildren of the aged couple. Mr John Johnston, who died at Kaihiku on Wednesday at the ripe age of eightyseven, had been a noted sheep-breeder ,m the Clutha district for many rears. He came to New Zealand in the Roval Albert in 1855.
