CITY POLICE COURT. j (Before H. A. Young, Esq., S.M.) A Sooty Chimney—William Schofield, for suffering a chimney to be on fire, was fined 10s and costs. He, did. not appear. A Stolen Bike.—John Edward BlonquLst was charged with stealing a bicycle, valued £lO, the property of Kenneth Edwin Tapper, such theft being an indictable offence.—Chief-detective Herbert told how the bicycle disappeared from outside Mr Tapper's office, Stock Exchange Building, and how Constable Lopdell, of Balclutha,' found the machine in Blanquist's possession, and arrested him in Balclutha. When arrested Blonquist said he owned the bicycle, and had purchased it on the West Coast. He had no receipt of the sale.— Kenneth Edwin Tapper, 'varsity student, and Edwin Alfred Tapper, his father, each gave evidence, and identified the bicycle as the property of the first-named witness. A back carrier was missing.— Constable Lopdell also gave evidence, mentioniiiT that Blonquist had given the name of John. Johansen when questioned by him in Balclutha about the bicycle.' Widdowson, Esq., S.M.} _ Non-observance. —On an adjourned charge of entering licensed premises (on M:irch 13) during the currency of a prohibition order in" force against him, John Docherty, who pleaded not guiltv. was fined £4 and costs (7si, this being 'the setcnd ronviction for breach of the order within the past two months. Prohibited.—A prohibition order was granted agaisist a married man on the application of his brother. Noxious Weeds.—John Andrews, for failing to cut down thistles on section 64, block 7, North Harbor and Blueskin district, M-as filled 30& and costs (28s). John Wardsworth, in respect to sections 80 and 24, block 6, was fined 20s and costs (28s). -Joseph Powell, in respect to section 1, block 9, was fined 10s and costs (2Ss). Charles H. Carey, in respect to section 30, block 4, was fined 20s and costs (2&). _ Civil Action.—Annie Fraser applied for an order on a judgment summons against Edward Grave for the recovery of £8 15s (money lent and costs). After hearing evidence His Worship adjourned the case for four weeks in order to allovr the parties to arrive at a settlement between themselves.
