RAILWAY WORKSHOPS.
HANDS BEING DISMISSED. [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 16. Regarding the dismissal of men from* Addington Workshops, the Railway Department states that the men being dispensed with are employees who were put on for carrying out special wort. That work has now been completed. There had been a very large number of men employed in the Workshops throughout the Dominion building rolling stock. The programme was now nearly completed, and the services of the men were no longer required. No permanent hands had been retired except under the superannuation scheme. The casual hands now being dismissed were engaged for special work for specific periods. Meanwhile the building programme had been extended from time to time. The department had been spending very large sums of money daring the past year in the manufacture of rolling stock. That had now come to an end, and the men's services were no longer required.
