A STRANGER'S END.

A man went to the night watchman of the ferry steamer Maheno last night and asked to be allowed to sleep aboard, for it was too cold to sleep out. The permission was granted. About six this morning the watchman heard the man cough, but an hour later, going to rouse him, found him apparently dead. Dr Macdonald was called, and, arriving with Sergeant o'Grady, pronounced life to have passed. At first deceased's identity could not be established, but now he has been identified as "Taff" Mills, a Lyttelton man, well enough known there. He was apparently about forty-sis vears of age. An inquest was held at the Morgue, where the body now lies.
