VALLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL

SPECIAL MKECTNG. A special meeting of the North-east Valley Borough Council was held on Saturday afternoon. There were present the Mayor (Mr J. Campbell) and Crs. I. Green, J. Kvans, W. B. Anderson, W. King, and J. Farqub arson. —Street Formation.— Tho letter of Mr W. J. Hall, C.K.. forwarding a plan showing the levels in Queen street, asked for by the Council, was considered. This was an application from Mr J. H. Duncan that the Council take over the private street in Duncan's subdivrsbn, near (lie township of Gladstone.—After considering the levels ns shown upon Mr Hall's plan, tho Council resolved as follows: —With reference to the approach to Queen street. Council would require a rubble wall, topped with a protective fence; bJfo a. pipe drain, to connect Gladstone road with a watercourse. The new roadway must be covered with metal, and provided with a footpath. With reference to Quoen street, Mr Duncan was to supply a 2ft- Moniex pil>e in the creek line, and to connect the approach with the Presbyterian Church Board property by means of road formation to the full width of the road. A footpath was to be formed on one side, the road to be metalled, and the path to be covered with screenings. —Opoho road.— Regarding the formation of Opoho road, the borough engineer ;<ubmitted working drawings of the proposed re-formation of the road. It was resolved that the plans and specifications be approved, and forwarded to tin; chief engineer of roads for his approval as soon as tho confent of the City Council to a slight alteration of the leveis is received. It was further resolved that tire borough engineer be asked to prepare plans ami upecifieatians for connecting the work with the present Belt road, and to submit the same to a special committee, consisting of His Worship the Mayor and Crs- Farquharson, Anderson, Evans, and Green, with power to call for tenders when the specifications had been adopted. —Complimentary.— Cr Kvans wished to accord the compliments of the season to His Worship the Mayor; the town clerk, and the Press.—Cr Green also spoke congratulating the town clerk on his splendid services, after which the mayor and town clerk briefly replied.
