PROTECTION TO NEWSPAPERS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, August 24. (Reodved August 24,' at 10.3 a.m.) In the Federal House of Representatives the Attorney-General has given notice of a new clause to the Copyright Bill, which is to be read in conjunction with the Act passed last .year. The new clause gives twenty-four hours’ protection to cables provided the owner of the news does not, without reasonable cause, refuse to supply such news to the proprietor of a newspaper on fair and reasonable terms. The definition of what is fair and reasonable is to be summarily determined by a justice of the High Court or Supreme Court. He AttorneyGeneral will submit the question as an open one, and in fulfilment of a promise made last year.
