RIFLE SHOOTING.
COMPETITION FOR GOVERNMENT MEDALS. WELLINGTON, July 21. The result of the competition for the Government medals shows that Private A. ** Humphries (Taranaki Rifles) won the gold medal for the best shot in the North kland, Sergeant H. E. Salmon (OhinemuriRifles) coming next. Private Stafford Wilson dark (also of Ohinemuri) gained the silver medal allotted to the bast shot in the Auckland district, and Corporal F. Symonds (Hastmgu Rifles) won a similar medal for the Wellington district In the South Island, Color-sergeant C. A. Hadfield (Blenheim) won the gold medal, with Sergeant-major F. Barnett (of Takaka, Nelson) second. The district medals were won by Corporal 0. Cole (Nelson), geant Sandford (Canterbury), and Colorsergeanfc Searle (Otago),
