[Per Potted Press Association.] WELLINGTON, July 21. Recently a deputation waited op, the Minister of Agriculture urging the Government’s assistance in thoroughly testing the dry air process, the invention of Mr Turner, a local chemist, for dressing flax. The Minister promised his support, but said he understood that the Cabinet now refused to sanction any expenditure in that direction. A further deputation is being arranged, INVERCARGILL, July 21. Richard Whittingham, brewer, was fined £5 for failing to fix upon the plug or stopper of a cask of beer the duty stamp so that it Could be destroyed on the withdrawal of the beer. The prosecution did not allege fraud, but the magistrate said that the practice opened the door to fraud, as a stamp might be used twice or oftener. GISBORNE, July. 21. The sufferers by the land slide are recovering. Mrs Merritt, however, has had to have her leg amputated. . AUCKLAND, Jnly 21. A fire in a block of buildings at the corner of Victoria and Nelson streets owned by the Cochrane Estate last night gutted the shops occupied by Mrs Hilder (dressmaker) and Wing Leo (laundry). PALMERSTON NORTH, July 21. Valuation particulars to hand show that the unimproved valuation of Palmerston as compared with £828,786, the valuation in 1904, an increase of £252,555.
