_ The river height this morning was 7ft 3in at Alexandra Bridge. The latest advices are to the effect thatdespite aU efforts to suppress the fire in the Broken Hill Proprietary mine it is slowly spreading, and the position is becoming serious. The ‘ Mataura Ensign ’ states that the Alagn-um Bonnm dredge at Waikaia, which began work in October, 1905, has won. returns averaging 40oz per week. The highest return for a week was 150oz, while a wash-up for four days’ work yielded 130oz. There are ten snareholders in the company, whoso capital is £2,500. Tho Rise and Shine No. 2 dredge skvmed to-day for boiler inspection. The Gore paper states that the MacChartion dredge and claim have been disposed of for £750. The Alexandra Eureka No. 1 dredge was offered for sale at auction by Aleesis Park. Reynolds, and Co. to-day, but was passed in unsold, as fie bidding did not reach the resave. We understand that the Government’s offer of £13,050 for the purchase outright of the Alexandra Bonanza Dredging . and Sinking Company’s water rights and plant has been accented bv the company.
