THE ENCYCLOPEDIA CO, IN COURT
INVERCARGILL, January 12. Judgment was given for the defendant in tho case Skerrett v. the Encyclopedia Company, a claim to recover' one guinea paid to the company on account of the price of the Otago volume. The plaintiff contended that if a contract existed it was void, because the terms were vague and uncertain; that it did not comply with the Book Purchasers Act; and that he was induced to sign the order by misrepresentation. The magistrate held that the form of order signed, together with the fact that a duplicate was handed to tire plaintiff, showed that the provis ons of the Book Purchasers Act had been complied with, and the plaintiff could not say there was misrepresentation regarding the nature of the volume when ho had never seen a copy. Counsel for the plaintiff said that probably action would be taken in another court-, as a large number were interested.
