GLADSOME IN AUSTRALIA. Press Aawro fcmn—By Telegraph—Copyright, SYDNEY, April 11. (Received April 11, at 9.52 a.m.) The ‘Daily Telegraph’ says that Gladsome s display in the A.J.C. Plate was terribly disappointing She ran without anv of the fire shown in her previous races. Staying does not appear to be one of her strong points. HOCKEY. A meeting of the Committee of the Otago Hockey Clnb was held in the secretary’s office on Saturday evening, and was attended by Messrs J. A Park (in the chair), G. G. Austin, J. Sibbald, H. G. Siedcberg. A. Robertson, and W. Maclean. A letter was received from Mr John While expressing his inability, on account of ill-health, til accept the office of president, and Mr J. A. Park was elected to fill the vacancy. Mr J. N. Mills was elected a vice-president of the club. It was decided to accept the offer of the Forbury Park Land Company for the use of the saddling paddock at Forbury for the season at a rental of five guineas. The />pen;ng day was fixed for Saturday, the 16th inst., but the fact of the races beingheld there on that date was overlooked at the time, so that the opening of the season will necessarily have to be postponed nntil (he 25rd inst. Several new members were elected, and everything augurs well for a successful season. *

GYMNASTICS. The Dunedin Gymnastic Club commenced their season on Friday night, when there was a fair attendance of old and new members. The squads were graded and put through some light work. Sume very promising work Was shown by (he new members, and those old members vyho have continued through the summer months are in excellent form. The evening practices will now be held every Tuesday and Friday, and it is hoped that members will make »s early a start as possible.
