FIRES

On Saturday morning a six-roomed honss in Clyde street, Invercargill, owned by the Hon. A. Baldey and occupied by Mrs Wilson, was destroyed by fire. On Saturday night a seven-roomed house in Invercargill belonging to the Railway Department and tenanted by Mr P. C'. Shirley, railway clerk, was burned down in the absence of the family. A fire occurred at 2.40 on Sunday morning at the premises of Wilson, a tailor in Kunbolton road, spreading to Rouse and Burrell's carriage factory and the offices of Tnstrn and Mackerras (land agents), Trewin (solicitor), and Fitzherbert (solicitor), all being totally destroyed. Fortunately there was no wind at the time, otherwise the fire would have swept the block. Part of the stock of Rouse and Burrell was saved.
