FIRES
On Saturday morning a six-roomed honss in Clyde street, Invercargill, owned by the Hon. A. Baldey and occupied by Mrs Wilson, was destroyed by fire. On Saturday night a seven-roomed house in Invercargill belonging to the Railway Department and tenanted by Mr P. C'. Shirley, railway clerk, was burned down in the absence of the family. The furniture is insured for £IOO in the Australian. Alliance Office. FEILDING. April 11. A fire occurred at 2.40 on Sunday morning at the premises of Wilson, a tailor in Kunbolton road, spreading to Rouse and Burrell's carriage factory and the offices of Tnstrn and Mackerras (land agents), Trewin (solicitor), and Fitzherbert (solicitor), all being totally destroyed. Fortunately there was no wind at the time, otherwise the fire would have swept the block. Part of the stock of Rouse and Burrell was saved. Collins Bros.' auction rooms narrowly escaped, The new fire police corps assisted the brigade in removing goods, etc. Insurances :—Rouse and Burrell; Buildings £3OO and stock £2OO in the Victoria Insurance Company. Wilson: Stock, £IOO in the Guardian. The other premises were insured in the Standard Office for £3OO. Rouse and Burrell’s estimated loss over insurance is £l5O, and Wilson’s £SO. AUCKLAND, April’ 1L A six-roomed house, owned by Mr T. Masefield, Sarsfield street, Ponsonby, was burned down early this morning.
