CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. Owing to delay in Eng-and the Canterbury Jubilee Memorial Statue has not yet been shipped, and therefore will not be in Christchurch on Coronation Day. The sculptor has been instructed to place on the pedestal of the statue " Victoria," with the dates of the late, Queen's birth and death. It is impossible as yet to send the list of the names of the soldiers who died in South Africa to be cast on the bronze panel. The total cost of the work will be £l,Bll ss, of which £1,600 has been paid. After all accounts have been met out) of the funds in hand there will be a deficit of £lB7 7s 9d. The Canterbury Coachbuilders' Industrial Union of Workers passed a resolution affirming that the Conciliation and Arbitration Act had been beneficial to the community as a whole, and they further desired to place it on record that they have every confidence in the impartiality and judgment of the present members of the Arbitration Court. The directors of the Bank of New Zealand have declined to accede to a petition asking that a branch bank be established at Cheviot At a conference of local bodies in Ashley County, held at Rangiora yesterday, it was decided to make a mrther effort to obtain a third of the purchase-money paid to the Government for the Midland Railway lands sold. It was resolved that the Ashley Road Board draw up a petition for presentation to Parliament, to be submitted to another meeting of .ocal bodies and ratepayers, to be held on July 8.
