THE POLLARD OPERA COMPANY.
A large audience attended tie Princess's Theatre last evening to witness the performance of 'Maritana' by Pollard's Opera Company. It was a capital production of this lavorite opera, and one of which the company are deserving of every praise. The appearance of Miss Rose Blaney in the name part lent additional interest to the performance, and it wil suffice to say that Miss Blaney, who is always at home on the stage, gave a very creditable account of herself. Her flinging was quite in keeping with any of her previous best efforts, and while her acting lacked the ease of the professional it was not marred by awkwardness. Two very enjoyable items were 'The harp in the air' and the duet with Don Jose ' Of fairy wand had I the power.' All through, Miss Blaney, who was the recipient of several boquets, song in her best style, her rendering of 'Scenes that are brightest' eliciting an undeniable encore. Mr Carter, as Don Caesar de Basan, fairly excelled himself both in his singing and acting. In fact, he gave a splendid allround representation of the part. His items 'There is a flower that bloometh,' 'Let me like a soldier fall,' and 'Farewell, my gallant captain,' were a real treat to listen to, and more than once the audience even went the length of demanding a double encore. Mr O'Connor looked the part of Don Jose, besides singing with much success. His best effort was 'la happy moments.' As the King of Spain Mr RaTston also sang exceedingly weL, while Miss Agnes Smith, as Lassarilio, created a very favorable impression. For her singing of ' Alas those chimes' she received the unusual compliment of being thrioe recalled. The singing of the choruses is also deserving of praise. This evening Duned:n playgoers will have an opportunity of judging for themselves as to the merits of 'The Messenger Boy.' All the members of the company are taking a lively interest in their work, aud there is every reason to anticipate that "The Messenger Boy' will repeat his Home triumphs. A few rows of seats in the ■tails are being reserved at circle prices. A matinee performance of 'ln Town' is announced for Saturday.
