THE ORIENT'S CONTINGENT.

A meeting of the Sports Committee was held in the Town Hall last night, Mr W. ALow presiding. A large amount of routine business was transacted in connection with (he sports at Forbuiy Park next Wednesday. The following programme was adopted:—Tug-of-war (on font), rescue race, night alarm for volunteers, sack race for bluejackets of H.M.S. Mildura, cigar race, tug-of-war (mounted), and band quickstep competition. This programme is to start at two o’clock sharp. The following officials were appointed ; —General superintendent of sports and ground, Mr W. A. •Low; secretary, Mr A. Wright; judges— Adjutant Hislop, Captain Stoneham, Lieutenant M‘Ara, Mr A. Vail is (bands), Ser-geants-major Taylor and Buchanan (night alarm), Captain Price, Adjutant Stronach, Captain Freeman, Lieutenant Prain (tug-of-war on horse), Messrs R. R. Taylor and C. Bayley (other events); clerks of course— Messrs J. Duncan, G. Shepperd, and V/. Speight; starter, Mr W. Mills ; band marshal, Mr W. Strong; supervisor of trades display, Mr W. Scott. Substantial prizemoney was allotted, and it was decided that entries for all events close at one o’clock on Wednesday afternoon at the secretary’s office.
