WELLINGTON. When Mrs M‘William, convicted of the attempted murder of Mrs Dick in Messrs Kirkoaldie and Stains’s tea rooms, was brought up for sentence, the Judge said hje l regretted very much that the interest of the public safety required a lengthy sentence,; which would be for the term of seven years. The prisoner expressed regret for her action.! The man Raker, accused of shooting at his : wife and convicted of common assault, was sentenced to one year’s hard labor. Walter Looney was sentenced to two years for theft, and the same term concurrently for maiming a sheep. Joseph Looney, on the latter charge, got eighteen months.
