PROTECTIONIST WAIL.

SYDNEY, August 24. At the annual meeting of the Chamber of Manufacturers the report stated that the removal of the Customs duties had resulted in decreased employment in a considerable number of industries. Over 1,300 less hands were employed in manufactories than the previous year. The present tariff was also causing hoys to he largely employed in place of men. The chairman held that under the present conditions it was almost impossible to develop the industries of the colony.
