The ' British Medical Journal' states that the conferring of a knighthood upon Dr T. N. Fitzgerald, of Melbourne, whose name appeared in the Jubilee Hat of knight bachelors, has given general satisfaction to the profession. The 'Journal' adds that the honor was conferred purely on the grounds of scientific and personal worth. Lord HerEchell, on behalf of the Council of the Imperial institute, has expressed regret at the exclusion of representatives of the Australian Press Association from the banquet at the Institute to colonial Premiers. Sergeant Rolle, late of the Victorian Artillery, won the first prize at the Royal Artillery Match at Shoeburyness. A syndicate formed by Mr E. T. Hooley, the millionaire, is negotiating the Chinese's per cent, indemnity loan of sixteen millions, the minimum being fixed at 95.
