DUNEDIN HOUNDS.
Saturday's meet at Pine Hill was held under most unfavorable circumstances, rain, hail, and Bnow showers falling at intervals during the day, besides which a most piercing wind was blowing. The few enthusiasts, however, who ventured out were rewarded with a capital run over the'! properties of Messrs Richards, Godfrey, Meredith, and Bunbury, the fences being chiefly of stone of a very solid manner, which required very careful jumping. The huntsman rode Bugler, the whip Freemason, Mr E. Reid Comeaway, Mr J. G. Reid Kelly. Mr T. Godfrey Ladybird, Mr Flockton Rosslyn, Mr J. Orbell Oberon, and a lad Dun Joseph. Several local sports were also to the fore. This run was over totally different ground to that hunted over in the vicinity last season, and those who were out expressed surprise at finding such good hunting country on the hill. Another meet later on at the same place under more favorable circumstances should draw a large following. Some good jumping was witnessed, but in the second run old Freemason, in taking a high (light of rails out of some low ground, brought disaster to himself and the whip, who escaped unhurt. On Wednesday, the 16th inst, the Waikouaiti sports hold a point-to-point steeplechase under the auspices of the Dunedin Hunt Club, when it is anticipated a large field will face the starter. The distance will bo about three miles, and substantial trophies will be presented to the riders of the three placed horses. The club purpose holding a point-to-point steeplechase on Saturday, the 26th inst, provided ground suitable can be secured contiguous to the City, and it is to be hoped that landowners will not throw any obstacles in the way of the club having a successful afternoon's Bport. The majority of landowners are as a rule always willing and ready to assist in furthering the interests of the club, but where the various holdings are of a comparatively small area an event such as a point-to-point steeplechase cannot be carried to a successful issue without combined assistance, which, I trust, will be forthcoming on this occasion. Next Saturday's meet will be at Halfway Bush. Phiubustkr.
