The Cardiff miners are notified of a reduction of 4d, which is accepted as another indication of a general reduction. With a view to a general strike efforts are being made to reorganise the. Miners’ Association. It is understood that at their last meeting the delegates unanimously agreed that a general stoppage of works was necessary to meet the grindingdown process. [The meaning of tho last sentence in the original was somewhat obscure. We have done our best with it.]
THE BARQUE GEORGE THOMPSON. Our parliamentary reporter wires to-day: —The Commissioner of Marine read to the House this morning the report from the masters of the ships Oamaru, Nelson, and Firth of Lome that, having made an independent examination of the barque George Thompson, they totally refuted the assertions of her crow regarding her unseaworthiness. After a thorough examination they found that below and aloft the vessel was in a very satisfactory condition. The leakage complained of was only normal, and the deck load was stowed in such a manner that it would not interfere with the working of the vessel. This report was endorsed by other experts. The Hon. Mr Ward added' that it was at the instance of the Marine Department that the barque had been detained for survey and repairs,.
