A CLAIM FOR £5,000 DAMAGES.
[From Our Parliamentary Reporter.]
WELLINGTON. August 2
Instructions have been issued to bring an action against a southern newspaper claiming £5,000 as damages for libel on account of strictures contained in the journal referred to with respect to the conduct of the Government Life Insurance Department. The Commissioner says that, pending the service of the writ, he does not think the name of the newspaper should be disclosed. Later.
I now learn that Christchurch * Truth ’ is the paper to be proceeded against, and that the alleged libel was contained in an article commenting on transactions with regard to securities of the Insurance Department. -
