It is unofficially stated that Great Britain and Italy have concluded a treaty for united action in Africa. The two countries are to exert a joint influence over l£assala and Leilah.

ST. PETERSBURG, July 31
Thu ‘ Nowosti ’ urges that an alliance of Russia with Abyssinia will easily secure a coaling station in the Red Sea, and prevent its domination by the English. France, says the journal referred to, must increase her fleet in the Indian Ocean, and Russia must strengthen hors in the Mediterranean; Massowah must be converted into a joint harbor, and the Italians must be ejected.
