SHEEP RKTURNS.

According to the returns just presented to Parliament, the number of sheep in the colony as at April 30 last was 16,749,692, being an increase of 668,314 over last year's. Auckland is responsible for 118,577 of the inorease, Napier for 76,121, west coast of Wellington for 372,476, Marlborough-Nel-son for 43,708, and Otago for 57,432; while Canterbury-Kaikoura is the only district whioh shows a decrease (34,735). The details of the Otago district are furnished by the local obief sheep inspector:—
