THE EXHIBITION.

EXHIBITION COMMISSIONERS.

Aftor we went to press yesterday twosubjects of considerable importance came up* for discussion at the meeting of* ExhibitionComissioncTs—viz., the question - of closing; the Exhibition between the hourtfof halfpast fife aw* hail-past seven, aM* the grievance so" frequently complained of w&o----gard to selling goods ia the Exhibition. With regard to the first matter, the President said the Executive had given a good deal of careful consideration to the matter, but, on a number of grounds, had 1 eome to the inclusion that they could not approve of the building being kept open duriog the* hours referred to. The most important objection to it was that it would increase the; weekly expenditure in connection- with the staff beyond what they would be justified im doing; this Was owing to the fact thaH-they would have to engage more hands, and ako< to the fact that it had been discovered thota> food deal of pilfering went on in the Ishibition during the times wl&en there were' not many visitors about. Some discussion' I ensued in reference to the matte*, but ao- ' decision was arrived at. The next matter brought up was Eta* of the selling that went on in the After a somewhat animated discussion t6e> matter was allowed to drop without any' resolution being passed; tike Executive assuring the Commissioners that every effort would be made to put a stop to the practice complained of. We understand that the Executive have taken active steps this morning towards preventing; the unauthorised sale of goods LatheExhibition which has formed the subject of much comment of late. In consequence of "strained relations"' between the Commissioners of New South. I Wales, Victoria, and South Australia irt connection with the joint Australian winebar, the " triple alliance " hitherto existing; between those colonies in the matter hj» been broken up, and there are now being erected in the further end of the N.St Wales Court, under the wine trophy,, separate bars for New South Wales and South Australia. The entrance from theHome Industries Court into the old wine bar" will now lead instead straight into the gardens. Mr Lincoln appeared in the concert halt again last evening, and, as usual, kept bis. audience in a state of merriment, more or less boisterous according to the perceptive!' faculties of his individual hearers. His funnyisms arc for all classes, except those who see no fun apart from suggestive vulgarity. For these Mr Lincoln does not cater. He mimics real live men and women i of all ran ks, and whether taking off a larrikin ! or burlesquing fthe absurdities of a lady of ! culture, he is equally irresistible. Those ' who haYe not seen and heard Mr Lincoln have ' missed the most laughable entertainer we ' have ever had m these parts. The members of the Victorian Commission intend entertaining the Governor and the Executive of the Exhibition at a banquet at Watson's Hotel on Wednesday night. The orrery at the aide show reserve of tho Exhibition attracts large numbers, and those who see this complicated piece of machinery —the work of a scientific and learned man—cannot fail to be pleased and interested. To those who study the beave»the orrery should prove a valuable assistant.
