(Eeoeived April 14,1888, at 10.40 a.m.) Extensive irrigation works are projected in the Wimmera district, to cost L 215,000. TYPHOID IN MELBOURNE. Melbourne, ArJVil 14. From December 13 to April 12 there have been 1,070 cases of typhoid fever in this city, and 235 of them proved fatal, PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES. Melbourne, April 14. The fire authorities have ordered an inspection of the life-saving apparatus at the coffee palaces in Melbourne. THE SMALLPOX OUTBREAK. Sydney, April 14. (Received April 14, 1888, at 1.10 p.m.) Mrs Lakeman, wife of Mr Alex. Lakeman, member for Balranald, mother of tho child who died of smallpox last week, and her domestic servant, have developed smallpox symptoms. Both patients have been isolated.
