Frederick 111, was interviewed on his journey to this city from San Remo by King Milan of Servia and the Duke of Aosta. Both interviews were of the most cordial description.

LYING IN STATE.

Berlin, March 13.

Immediately on his arrival he visited his father’s body. The corpse was conveyed on Sunday to the cathedral under an escort of cavalry, and was followed by Prince William and the other princes of tho family. The body lies in state until Tuesday.

Reference was made in all the pulpits throughout Great Britain yesterday to the death of Emperor William, deploring his loss.

The Emperor’s deathbed scene was very touching and beautiful. His Majesty’s only daughter, the Grand Duchess of Baden, lovingly attended him. In reply to her whispered inquiry, the Emperor said “ I am very tired ] but there is no time to say much. There is so much to do.”

The Emperor Frederick was unable to speak with King Humbert of Italy owing to his throat malady, but they conversed by means of written slips. A similar course was adopted with the Duke of Aosta and other interviewers. His Majesty’s health has improved.

(Received March 14,1888, at 12.80 p.m.) As previously telegraphed, the corpse of the late Emperor was conveyed from the palace to the cathedral on Sunday night. The procession, which was headed by the Prussian Corps of the Guards, left the palace at midnight in the midst of a blinding snowstorm, and was composed of the Royal Princes, generals of the army, Ministers, and other notabilities. Torchlights were carried by soldiers, and tho scene was a most weird and imposing spectacle. The body of the late Emperor, now lying in state in the cathedral, is being visited by enormous crowds of people. The funeral takes place on Friday. There will then be service in the cathedral, and a State procession will follow the remains to the mausoleum at Charlottenburg.

THE EMPEROR’S ADDRESS TO THE NATION. The Emperor Frederick takes the oath of allegiance on Saturday. He has issued an address, in which he says that it will be his endeavor to rule

la the spirit of his father ; that it will bo one of his first duties to maintain the efliciency of the army and navy, especially the latter, which lie says has important duties to perform in assisting to maintain the colonies, which should be acquired as fields for German emigration.
