MINING NOTES.
From the Wakatu mine, Owen, 131cz 7dwt (f retorted gold bavo been obtained for a month's crushing. A Tauraoga telegram statca that a reef showing gold freely has been di»oovcred near Mount Edgecombe. Tho manager of the Phconix Gold-mining Company, Macetown, reports that he has deposited 2510z gold at tbo Bank as the result of the olearing-up. This, with 1970z 18dwt obtained from hlankotings, makes tbo yield for the season 4480z Udwt from 615 tons of quartz. A Greymoutb telegram states that mimerom applications are being made for leases of groni'd along the West Coast beaches for tho purpose of being worked by dredges such as Weltman's nnrt Ball'*, and groat hopes are cntertainod if the dredges only come up to expectation. Several cimpanies aro now under way, but no'jo are yet in aetivc operation.
THE LABOR MARKET. Mr Skene reports: Business and work are suspended for the holidays. Tthe only demand now is for dairy and hotel people and for femalo servants.
